As a National Officer in the RCN Employment Relations Department, you’ll use your positive attitude and your knowledge of trade unions, employment/industrial relations, collective bargaining and partnership working to provide employment/industrial relations expertise to support the development and implementation of employment/industrial relations strategies for the RCN, ensuring alignment with member interests and organisational goals.

You will be part of a team of National Officers providing employment relations expertise on employment/industrial relations, pay and bargaining (relating to all aspects of pay, terms and conditions) to RCN members and staff across the UK countries and regions as required.

It's a job full of possibilities, you could get involved with a range of different sectors and/or employers across the UK, operating at a national level, including working across a range of health and social care sectors/organisations. You will have well developed knowledge and understanding of employment relations across the health and social care sectors including public, private, independent and charitable providers. You will have a degree, equivalent qualification or significant knowledge and experience in a related field.

You will bring knowledge and understanding of health, social care and nursing workforce issues across the UK combined with your knowledge and understanding of Organising as an approach within trade unions and industrial relations.

You will have experience of working at a senior level in organisations and of working with government and/or statutory organisations.

You will bring experience of managing consultations and negotiations and an ability to manage complex projects delivering benefits for trade union members and/or your organisation. You should be able to demonstrate you ability to involve and include members and stakeholders, ensuring all you do is of benefit to members, contributing to your team’s success.

*We offer a competitive pay structure with annual pay progression until you reach the top of the salary scale. We normally offer new employees the first point of the salary range, although you may be able to negotiate a higher starting salary depending on your skills, experience and current salary. We are a diverse organisation and understand everyone has different needs and many of our employees enjoy flexible working enabling them to deliver results whilst having a good work life balance. Our hybrid working model allows for up to 60% of your working time to be carried out from home. At least 40% of your working time will be spent working in person.
